New York Mets Could Reportedly Make Big ‘Splash’ To Bolster Lineup

They might not be finished.

Although it was initially reported that the New York Mets had about $10 million left to spend this offseason, with a focus on relief pitching, they may still be looking to add an impact bat.

According to MLB insider Andy Martino of SNY, if the Mets make a “splash” in the remainder of the offseason, it will likely be for a designated hitter, which is the most glaring hole in their lineup.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman also reported that the Mets were looking to add another bat.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns recently stated that the team is open to acquiring another hitter, but he doesn’t see it as an “essential” move.

That being said, the Mets have shown interest in power-hitting DH Jorge Soler, who would perfectly complement Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor in the middle of the lineup.

They’re also seen as an “ideal” fit for All-Star DH J.D. Martinez, who is coming off a bounce-back year with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was reported last month that the Mets were interested in a reunion with Justin Turner, who is a DH and can play third base in a pinch. This move makes sense after the Mets lost infielder Ronny Mauricio for the season due to a torn ACL.

Despite 2024 being viewed as a transition year for the Mets, they still want to compete for a playoff spot, and Stearns has made that clear. In order to do so, they must add a DH to boost their lineup.

Relief pitching is an obvious need for the Mets, and they will add there, but it sounds like they could land an impact bat as well to top off their offseason.
