New York Mets' Alonso Likely Headed for IL

When it rains it pours.
New York Mets All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso is expected to land on the injured list, according to MLB.com.
Alonso was plunked on the wrist with a 97 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves pitcher Charlie Morton on Wednesday night, which forced him out of the game.
While initial X-Rays came back negative, Alonso underwent a CT scan and was then sent back to New York to be looked at by Mets' team doctors.
As manager Buck Showalter revealed, Alonso's wrist was still very sore as of Thursday morning.
On Friday morning, The New York Post's Jon Heyman was reporting that Alonso could miss several weeks with a wrist injury.
The Mets, who have lost six games in a row and are 30-33, can ill-afford to lose Alonso, who is their best player.
Alonso is leading Major League Baseball with 22 home runs and leads the National League with 49 RBIs. He has only spent time on the IL once in his career when he did the minimum 10 days for a wrist sprain in 2021.
The Mets were just swept by the Braves after getting swept by the Toronto Blue Jays. New York is now 8.5 games back in the NL East and head to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates.
MLB.com reports that Luis Guillorme is traveling to meet the Mets in Pittsburgh and will likely take Alonso's spot.
