New York Mets' Alonso Suffers Injury After Hit by Pitch

Not ideal.

After getting booed in his first at-bat for yelling "throw it again" as a taunt the night before, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was plunked on the left wrist by a Charlie Morton 97 mph fastball.

Alonso left the game after being examined by the trainer.

The good news is that X-Rays came back negative and he is day-to-day with a wrist contusion.

The bad news is that the Mets will be without their All-Star slugger for the remainder of their second game of their series against the Atlanta Braves.

Tommy Pham took Alonso's spot in the batting order and Mark Canha slid over to first base.

Alonso entered the night leading Major League Baseball with 22 home runs. The Mets cannot afford to lose their best hitter for any period of time.

Alonso suffered a similar scare last June when Yu Darvish hit him on the wrist with a pitch. Fortunately, he only missed one game before returning to the lineup.

Starling Marte was hit by a pitch last September and missed the remainder of the month with a fractured middle finger.

On Tuesday night, Alonso was caught on a hot mic taunting Bryce Elder for hanging a slider, which he homered on in the third inning. This prompted the Braves fans to boo him in his first at-at tonight.

The Mets will hold their breath and hope that Alonso can avoid a stint on the injured list.
