New York Mets' Star Says Pete Alonso Should Stay With Team Long-Term

In this story:
There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Pete Alonso's future with the New York Mets as he enters his final year of arbitration.
But one star teammate believes he might know what Alonso is thinking regarding his outlook of staying with the Mets long-term.
Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo appeared on The New York Post's baseball podcast "The Show" and told Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman that he thinks Alonso "wants to and should stay a Met."

Nimmo went on to praise Alonso's positive presence in the clubhouse and lineup, as well as his clutch hitting.
The 30-year-old, who signed an eight-year, $162 million deal to remain a Met last year, touched on his own experience in free agency, making a point of how Alonso must weigh all of his options and then make the best decision for he and his family.
Alonso's name has been tied to trade rumors since last season's trade deadline, but a deal seems unlikely at this point. However, if the Mets are out of contention by the summer time they could trade Alonso for the right offer.
Alonso could also still sign an extension before the regular season begins, but to this point there has been no word of any talks between the star slugger and the Mets.
Since entering the league in 2019, Alonso has hit the most home runs and driven in the most RBIs in baseball.
Alonso, 29, is one of the best power hitters in the game, and has quickly become a franchise cornerstone for the Mets. They will likely do everything they can to hang onto him for the long haul.
