Philadelphia Phillies Make Roster Move Ahead of Giants Series

In this story:
The Philadelphia Phillies activated relief pitcher José Alvarado on Monday, bringing back one of their top relievers for their stretch run for a playoff berth.
Alvarado had thrown two scoreless innings of injury rehab at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, an assignment that wrapped up on Friday.
The Phillies optioned pitcher Luis Ortiz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make room for Alvarado.
In an additional move, the Phillies officially sent infielder Weston Wilson down to Triple-A on Sunday night to make room for outfielder Brandon Marsh.
The Phillies activated Marsh on Sunday for their game with Washington at the Little League Classic. But Marsh was activated as a 27th player, which meant the Phillies had to option someone to make room for Marsh before Monday’s game with San Francisco.
The Phillies placed Alvarado on the 15-day injured list on July 9 due to left elbow inflammation. This was his second stint on the injured list season. He also went on the 15-day injured list on May 10 due to left elbow inflammation.
Alvarado has been a reliable arm in the bullpen this season for Philadelphia. He hasn’t registered a decision, but he has a 1.38 ERA. He’s thrown 26 innings in 26 games, giving up just 21 hits and seven runs (four earned). He’s struck out 39 against nine walks and is allowing batters to hit .216 against him.
He has a career record of 13-18 with a 3.36 ERA with 92 holds and 28 saves. He strikes out more than 11 hitters per nine innings.
The Phillies called up Wilson on Aug. 6. The long-time minor leaguer hit a home run in his first Major League at-bat in the same game in which Michael Lorenzen threw his no-hitter. He played in four games and had two hits in six at-bats.
