Dillon Dingler's Power Surge Is Turning Detroit's Catcher Spot Into a Weapon

If there is easily a player that the Tigers cannot be without, it is their man behind the dish.

A measly week ago, it looked like the Detroit Tigers had waived the white flag on the season and completely given up as the front office dealt away the face of their organization, Tarik Skubal, as well as their No. 2 man, Casey Mize.

But the team has shown quite a bit of fight, and the offense is pummeling pitching staffs. They have climbed their way back into playoff contention and sit a mere 1.5 games back of the final AL wild card spot going into action on Tuesday.

Many have shown up big for Detroit in this stretch, but one man has put himself in contention for AL MVP, the man behind the dish- DIllon Dingler.

Dingler isn't just posting the best numbers among all catchers in the league, but is also incredibly prepared for his pitchers, studying incredibly hard before each game. Then, when he isn't catching, he is suiting up as the designated hitter, as he seemingly cannot be out of the lineup.

Dingler is known as a defensive mastermind, as a Gold Glove winner a season ago, but this is by far the best season of his young career offensively, as he has really found some power in his bat, which is why his slug is 100 points higher than last year.

The Tigers are one of the best offenses in baseball, and even with their pitching struggles earlier in the year, they lead all AL teams in run differential, and a big part of that is thanks to Dingler. He leads the team in homers and has 21 more RBI than the No. 2 hitter, Spencer Torkelson.

Now, this is a huge week for Detroit, as they have a pair of big division matchups that kick off Tuesday evening against the Cleveland Guardians, who are a half-game behind the Tigers in the playoff race.

Then, they will face off with the Chicago White Sox right after, who currently sit atop the AL Central. This week is going to tell a lot, and the postseason picture could be entirely different for a red-hot Tigers team.

Without Dingler, there is no telling where this ballclub would be, and he needs to keep the merriment going if they have any chance of sneaking into October baseball.
