In this story:

The Detroit Tigers dropped their most recent series to their American League Central rival the Kansas City Royals on Saturday 3-1. Tigers starter Drew Anderson got outdueled by Royals starter Michael Wacha in the low scoring affair.

Anderson completed five innings for manager AJ Hinch and crew only giving up three runs on five hits while walking one batter and striking out four. The Tigers bullpen covered the last few innings and did not gve up anymore runs or anymore hits to finish out the game.

The Tigers offense that was led by Kevin McGonigle and Dillon Dingler among others let Anderson down. They only managed to score one run on three hits against Wacha and did not get anything else going in another tough loss that they could not afford in the wild card playoff race.

Dingler, Brett Callahan, and Hao Yu-Lee were the only ones to get hits off of the veteran Wacha in the contest. Lee hit a home run which was the only run the Tigers scored all-game but fans know that the offense is way better than this and is the main culprit lately as to why Detroit keeps losing games.

Tigers Offense Sealing Playoff Fate

It seems like there is nobody in the current Tigers lineup, not even McGonigle, that can save the team in terms of where they are in the playoff race. They were coming into the weekend not far behind the third and final wild card spot in the American League.

But having dropped a series to a team that is below them in the division standings and a team that they can usually beat that has struggled this season, is abysmal. Hinch and crew know that their team knows better and should be playing better and swinging the bat better.

The pitchers especially in the starting rotation are getting their job done but the offense is not doing enough to pick them up. It is all just about sealing their fate in the playoff race as the Tigers do not look like a playoff team this season as October is quickly approaching.

And with the Tigers not likely looking like a playoff team this season after being one win away from the ALCS is quite sad. The offense is more than good enough and has good enough players, they just are not executing like they were last season and have been a major letdown in 2026.
