Giancarlo Stanton Opens Up About Struggles This Season

He finally acknowledged the elephant in the room.

New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is not denying that he has endured the worst season of his career.

After Wednesday night's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Stanton's average sunk to .188 and his OPS to .694.

Stanton's reaction to his batting average on the scoreboard is: “Terrible.”

In his last 11 games, he is 2-for-39 with 17 strikeouts.

He is also coming off the worst season of his career (.211 average, .759 OPS) and topped that with his statistics this year.

Not only has hitting taken a dive, all eyes have been on his slow base running as he attempts to avoid lower body injuries after straining his hamstring earlier in the season.

“Can’t produce like this season, so gotta change,” Stanton told reporters.

The Yankees' hands are tied here, as Stanton is under contract through 2027 and is owed $98 million.

Stanton, who is 33-years-old, has 402 career home runs, but has looked older than his age.

But he says it's not because of a lack of effort.

“A lot of things I’ve got to work and adjust on,” Stanton said. “But if you guys think I’m just showing up and going out there and not working, then I don’t know what to tell you.”

Stanton has a history of being streaky, but the hot streaks have not come this season.

The Yankees are hoping to get him right in the offseason, so he can recapture the form of the consistent power hitter that he has been in his career.
