The New York Yankees' starting rotation is about to get an All-Star back from the injured list.

Left-hander Carlos Rodon made his third and final rehab start on Saturday, throwing 3.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out eight batters.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone had previously said that Rodon would only need three rehab starts before rejoining the big-league club. Rodon is in line to make his Yankee debut on July 7 by starting against the Chicago Cubs.

After signing a six-year, $162 million deal with the Yankees in the offseason, Rodon has yet to throw a pitch for the team. This is because a forearm strain and back tightness knocked him out of action since early-March.

While the forearm strain was only expected to keep Rodon out until May, back tightness forced him to restart his throwing program.

Without Rodon, the Yankees' rotation has lacked a true No. 2 starter behind ace Gerrit Cole. This was the role that New York signed Rodon to fulfill as he was one of the best starters in the league from 2021-2022.

The Yankees also did not anticipate the struggles of Luis Severino (6.30 ERA) and Nestor Cortes (5.16 ERA, IL) this season as well. The hope is that Rodon can provide a boost to a Yankee rotation that has been spotty beyond Cole this year.

The Yankees will finally get to see what they paid for, as Rodon will make his long awaited team debut in the coming days.
