Youngsters to the rescue!

The New York Yankees are calling up two top prospects in infielder Oswald Peraza and outfielder Everson Pereira ahead of their series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

Jack Curry of the YES Network was the first to report this news.

According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, the plan is for Peraza and Pereira to essentially play every day at the big-league level.

Pereira, particularly, solves a major issue at the left field position. Between Double-A and Triple-A this season, the 22-year-old slashed .300/.373/.548 with a .921 OPS, 18 home runs, 64 RBIs and a 138 wRC+ in 303 at-bats.

Pereira is the No. 3 ranked prospect in the Yankees' farm system and the No. 80 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list.

As for Peraza, he has had several stints in the big-leagues thus far in his career, including earlier this season in parts of April, May and July, as well as the end of last season and in the postseason.

This year, Peraza hit just .173 with a .520 OPS in 52 at-bats in the major leagues. But last season he batted .306 with a .833 OPS in 18 games for the Yankees.

In Triple-A this season, Peraza is slashing .268/.357/.479 with a .836 OPS, 14 home runs and 36 RBIs in 63 games.

Peraza was the Yankees' No. 2 ranked prospect last season behind Anthony Volpe.

The Yankees, who have lost eight straight games and have fallen to nine games back of the final Wild Card spot in the American League, are hoping that by calling up these top prospects it can inject life into a sluggish lineup.

As previously mentioned, Pereira should take over the left field job and Peraza will likely see most of his action at third base ahead of Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
