Kicks and Colors: Adidas releases new Rip City, Road editions of D Lillard 1

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Adidas released the D Lillard 1.

Kicks and Colors spotlights the variety of colorways—and the stories that go with—that brands’ unveil in key basketball sneakers.

Brand: Adidas

Sneaker: D Lillard 1

Signature athlete:Damian Lillard

Colorway: Rip City and Road

Story: The first signature sneaker for Damian Lillard released in January, so it remains a bit early to expect the D Lillard 2, especially given that the signature sneakers for Derrick Rose and John Wall both have October release dates. With that in mind, though, Lillard needed a little something new to wear on court during the NBA season, giving us the Rip City and Road colorways. The Rip City home edition goes mostly white with gray speckled detailing, all with black and red on the heel pull tab, lace system, and Lillard branding. A metallic finish to the tonal snakeprint heel cap and the word “Townbiz” on the outsole pay tribute to Lillard’s hometown of Oakland. The Road version features mostly black, with some red and white speckling and red accents. The Rip City released on Oct. 23, while the Road edition debuts on Nov. 13.
