76ers News: Tyrese Maxey Edges Out Former Teammate in Updated Player Rankings

In this story:
As we enter 2024, Tyrese Maxey continues to have a breakout season for the Philadelphia 76ers. His play has been so impressive that he beat out a former teammate in recent player rankings.
Every year, the people at The Ringer put out a list of the top 100 players in the NBA. Throughout the course of the season, they make updates to keep things accurate. Following the latest changes, Maxey finds himself at No. 27, one spot ahead of James Harden. The Sixers guard is the 13th-highest-ranked guard, with Luka Doncic in the top spot.
Overall, the Sixers have three players in the top 100. Joel Embiid comes in at No. 2 as he's in the midst of another MVP-level season. Tobias Harris also makes an appearance, landing at No. 63.
Maxey, 23, has appeared in 34 games this season. In that span, he is posting a career-high 25.9 PPG to go along with 3.6 RPG and 6.6 APG. He is also having a strong shooting season, knocking down 37.4% of his threes on eight attempts per game.
This stellar play landed Maxey among the top vote-getters at guard for the All-Star game. He is also one of the top frontrunners for Most Improved Player at this point in the season.
Harden and the Clippers had a rocky start, but have managed to get things back on track. Following an impressive couple of weeks, LA now sits fourth in the Western Conference with a 23-13 record.
The former Sixers also got a large number of votes for the All-Star game despite his numbers being slightly lower than what we're accustomed to seeing. In the 31 games he's played in, Harden is averaging 17.4 PPG and 8.4 APG while shooting 43.1% from beyond the arc.
If Maxey can maintain this level of play through the rest of the season, he could arguably climb this list again down the road.
