Since being let go by the Philadelphia 76ers this past offseason, Doc Rivers has transitioned back into an analyst role on television. Amid recent reports, it seems like an avenue has opened up to get him back into coaching.
In a shocking turn of events, the Milwaukee Bucks fired coach Adrian Griffin halfway through his first season with the team. Not long after this news surfaced, Doc Rivers' name was mentioned as a possible replacement.

Griffin spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach before being named head coach of the Bucks. His dismissal is shocking to most as the team has had success under him. Milwaukee has the second-most wins in the NBA and only trails the Boston Celtics by three-and-a-half games for first place in the Eastern Conference. On top of this, star player Giannis Antetokounmpo is in the midst of another MVP-caliber season.
Rivers' most recent coaching stint came with the Sixers after he replaced Brett Brown in 2020. During his three years with the team, he posted a regular season record of 154-82. In the postseason, the Sixers had a 20-15 record during his tenure. The organization decided to move on from Rivers this summer to make way for Nick Nurse.
After trading for Damian Lillard in the offseason, the Bucks are looking to contend for championships right now. Knowing this, it is not surprising to see Rivers connected to this vacancy. He has an extensive amount of experience working with stars and has coached a team to a title. His lone finals victory came back in 2008 during his time as coach of the Boston Celtics.
