Former Sixer Patrick Beverley Makes Shocking Injury Decision

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley won't miss time after all.

The Milwaukee Bucks nearly lost former Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley for the remainder of the season. As Beverley suffered a wrist injury recently, the veteran guard’s official podcast Twitter account broke the news that he was facing a potential 3-4 month timeline for recovery.

Considering the Bucks acquired Beverley from the Sixers at the trade deadline last month, Milwaukee was banking on the guard’s services for this season alone, since he’s on a one-year deal.

After giving it some thought, Beverley opted to avoid a surgical procedure, and will play through the injury, in hopes of getting a deep postseason run out of the Bucks.

“I got to get me a championship this year,” Beverley said on his podcast. “Straight up. I have to. Like, I have to… I have to. Put some spit, put some dirt on it. The story is not over. We got work to do.”

Sure enough, Beverley was upgraded to probable ahead of Milwaukee’s Thursday night meeting with the New Orleans Pelicans. While he saw fewer minutes on the court, checking in for just a seven-minute shift, Beverley played when he was expected to be headed for surgery this week.

This season, Beverley started off with the Sixers. With hopes of giving the Sixers’ bench a boost as they worked for a potential championship run, Beverley proved to be a decent addition through his first 47 games of the season.

As it turned out, those 47 games became his only stretch in Philadelphia this year. After averaging six points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal per game on the Sixers, Beverley was moved to the Bucks on the day of the deadline. The fact that he was relocated came as a shock for everybody, from the players to the fan base.

Considering Beverley was reuniting with his former head coach Doc Rivers out in Milwaukee, a title-contending team, he embraced the opportunity. Prior to his injury, Beverley appeared in 19 games with the Bucks. Averaging nearly 20 minutes on the court, he’s produced five points, three rebounds, two assists, and a block and a steal per game out in Milwaukee.

Beverley might not be the best version of himself with the injury popping up as the playoffs approach, but the veteran isn’t going to miss the opportunity to give the Bucks what he can offer at this point in his career.
