Teams with title aspirations will try to land a player as talented as Giannis Antetokounmpo. That’s the move that the Golden State Warriors will supposedly try to explore in the summer should their campaign this season end up futile.

A dream scenario

Per a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Golden State’s “dream scenario” is to acquire Giannis in the offseason and pair him up with deadly shooter Stephen Curry.

An Antetokounmpo-Curry tandem will undoubtedly tilt the balance of the league. It has been reported that the Warriors tried to acquire LeBron James before the trade deadline this season. The report suggested that the plan to land LeBron went futile, and the Warriors will instead focus on bringing in Giannis in the offseason.

Playoff push

The Bucks and the Warriors are looking to improve their playoff chances when the second half of the season starts. The Bucks faltered before the All-Star break, while the Warriors gained some momentum with a string of wins.

Milwaukee may be in third place in the Eastern Conference at the start of the second half of the season, but they have been struggling to find consistency following the sudden firing of Adrian Griffin. The Bucks were 30-13 when Griffin was fired, then lost seven of their first ten games under new coach Doc Rivers. They headed into the All-Star break with back-to-back losses to the Miami Heat and the Memphis Grizzlies.

With a 27-26 record, Golden State Warriors is in 10th place in the Western Conference and would barely make it to the play-in tournament if the regular season ended today. The Warriors racked up five straight wins before losing to the Los Angeles Clippers. They bounced back from the loss by scoring a 140-137 win over the Utah Jazz before the All-Star break.
