The 2023 NBA Finals aren't even finished yet, and this offseason is already heading in the wrong direction for Cleveland Cavaliers fans. All of this drama surrounds their superstar shooting guard Donovan Mitchell.

Cleveland's offseason started earlier than they wanted it to after they were eliminated by the New York Knicks in five games. There's some past history here too.

New York is Mitchell's hometown and the Knicks were also the team that was heavily rumored to be pushing to acquire Mitchell from the Utah Jazz before the Cavs did.

Since this series wrapped up, Mitchell has been seen playing golf with a Knicks executive and has raved about how awesome it was to play in front of the New York crowd in the playoffs.

On top of this, a report from the Athletic's Jason Lloyd revealed that those around the league believe Mitchell will eventually make his way to New York once he hits free agency.

But will the Knicks wait that long to try and acquire him? Is Donovan Mitchell's time with the Cavaliers already coming to an end?

Peter Botte of the New York Post says that the Knicks could in fact put a trade package together for Mitchell. However, this would be something they do down the line and not in the near future.

Mitchell has two more years left on his contract with a player option for the third year. He has plenty of team control left so even if the Cavs were to trade him they could wait at least another season and run it back.

With this in mind, it doesn't appear that Mitchell's time in Cleveland will end after just one season, but it definitely is something to keep an eye on.
