Last-second basket lifts Vikings over Bruins

CLEVELAND -- Demonte Flannigan scored 16 points, including the last basket with 1.8 seconds left, to lift Cleveland State to a 67-65 win over visiting Belmont on Saturday.

Flannigan's heroics enabled the Vikings (4-7) to stave off a furious 19-4 rally by the Bruins in the final minutes. It was the second straight win for CSU, which has two games remaining -- both at home -- before beginning the Horizon League portion of the schedule.

Rob Edwards added 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting for the Vikings, and Andre Yates scored 11. Flannigan scored eight of his 16 in the final seven minutes.

Belmont (7-6) was led by Mack Mercer's 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Bruins had one last chance after Flannigan's basket, but were unable to get off a shot after the inbounds pass as time expired.

Cleveland State returns to action Wednesday vs. Bowling Green. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Wolstein Center.
