REPORT: Growing Feeling Donovan Mitchell Resigns With Cavaliers

REPORT: 'Growing Sentiment' that Donovan Mitchell will sign an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Donovan Mitchell has dominated the news with trade rumors and reports for almost a year now. Anytime the Cleveland Cavaliers faced any adversity, the trade narrative would be reignited. However, the tide is turning and there appears to be a growing feeling that Mitchell may want to stay with the Cavs after all.

Grant Afseth of NBAAnalysis.net reported that those around the league believe that Mitchell will end up resigning with Cleveland this summer.

He wrote, “According to multiple league sources who have told NBA Analysis Network, the growing sentiment around the NBA is that Donovan Mitchell plans to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers after his current contract expires.”

Afseth’s report echoes what one of Mitchell's current and closest teammates said last week.

Georges Niang has been a friend of Mitchell dating back to their days when they played for the Utah Jazz. He’s been with Mitchell through the good and the bad and probably has a reasonable idea of what the 27-year-old’s priorities are.

Niang said this on the Ryen Russillo Podcast and his future.

“From the vibes, I get around here and from when I was with [Mitchell in Utah] and the experiences over there, I would lean towards [Mitchell] being a Cavalier for a long time. That’s just my personal thought. That has nothing to do with what he’s going to do because he’s his own person but I think he genuinely enjoys this organization, the situation that he’s in, how it can continue to help grow his career, and how it can affect his ability to win.”

With all that’s been said about Mitchell’s desire to play for his hometown New York Knicks or play in a bigger market, it’s nice to get a report that points towards him staying with the Wine and Gold. However, we won’t know exactly what is in store for him until this summer.
