When James Harden publicly called Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey a liar, many speculated exactly what the star guard was upset about. There was public speculation that Harden was promised an extension that Philadelphia never offered, and then there was the most likely scenario that Philadelphia promised to trade Harden, and then backed out, which led to his comments.

In a recent report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, it was revealed that Harden calling Morey a liar was because Philadelphia promised to trade him "quickly" after he opted into the final year of his contract, which of course has not happened.

If this was the case, it does make sense why Harden is upset. After Harden opted into his deal, there were several reports that it was with the intention to be traded. The LA Clippers were named as Harden's preferred destination, and there seemed to be possible traction on a deal at the time, but that has since been shut down entirely by the 76ers.

With Philadelphia now intending to bring Harden back, it will be very interesting to see how the star guard approaches this situation. Somewhat limited in his options, due to certain rules against sitting out, Harden will have to decide exactly what he plans to do if he is indeed not traded before training camp begins in less than two months.
