Warriors Champion Makes Controversial Dillon Brooks Statement

In this story:
During his time with the Memphis Grizzlies, Dillon Brooks rubbed many the wrong way. While some respected what the defensive-minded forward brought to the Grizzlies, others took exception to the way he handled postgame press conferences, often calling out opponents. Recently speaking on Brooks, Golden State Warriors champion Andre Iguodala made a controversial comment that suggested the new Houston Rockets forward wouldn't be in the league if not for his "crazy mentality."
"There's certain guys in the NBA that wouldn't be in the NBA if they didn't have that crazy mentality or how they view themselves," Iguodala said on The Old Man and the Three podcast. "There's a selfishness within how they view themselves. If Dillon Brooks wasn't crazy, he wouldn't be in the NBA."
While Iguodala may not have intended to disrespect Brooks, some viewed it this way. From the sound of his comments, it didn't seem Iguodala was attempting to disrespect Brooks, but rather highlight the way his mentality has allowed him to become the player he is now. Where the comments have become controversial is with Iguodala saying Brooks wouldn't be in the league without his mentality. While he may not be the same player, Brooks would likely still be in the NBA without his current mindset.
A high-level defender, Brooks certainly has his weaknesses, but his place in the NBA goes beyond his mentality. Iguodala likely wasn't attempting to say this alone is why Brooks is in the league, but rather that mentality is what has allowed Brooks to become the player he is now. The comments have become controversial, and can be interpreted as disrespect, but that likely wasn't Iguodala's intention.
