It was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that former Memphis Grizzlies star Rudy Gay is signing a contract with the Golden State Warriors, and will compete for a roster spot in training camp. While Gay is no longer the star-level player he was in Memphis, the veteran forward could provide Golden State with some wing depth and experience if he were to impress in camp.

Gay was one of the Grizzlies' centerpieces during their grit and grind era that featured players like Zach Randolph, Mike Conley, Tony Allen, and Marc Gasol. A high-level scorer on those teams, Gay helped lead Memphis to the playoffs in 2012, averaging 19 PPG that season.

Having spent time with the Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, and Utah Jazz since leaving Memphis, Gay is now looking for an opportunity to join the Warriors. Seemingly pursuing a veteran big man just last week, the Warriors may be pivoting towards veteran wings when deciding who will receive their final roster spot. While the team could certainly still sign a big man, bringing a player like Gay into training camp certainly signifies Golden State's interest in adding another wing.

If Gay does receive a roster spot from the Warriors, he likely would not play much next season, but would be a reliable depth piece that provides leadership and experience for some of Golden State's younger wings.
