Playing 82 Games Remains A Standard For Some NBA Players

Boston Celtics' Derrick White played every game this season just like Bam Adebayo for the Miami Heat in 2018-19

The reaction from Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said it all.

When it became official that Celtics player Derrick White would play all 82 games this season, Mazzulla explained the importance.

“I think it’s important and I think he takes pride in that," Mazzulla said "…It’s cool to see. I’m happy for him.”

The comments made me think back to the joy Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo had when he accomplished the feat during the 2018-19 season. He called playing in all 82 games one of the best accomplishments of the season.

He played in each of the 72 games in 2020 and was just 17 shy of breaking Glen Rice's record of 174 straight games from March 8, 1992 to April 1, 1994. Adebayo played 158 straight games, which was fourth on the Heat's list behind Rice, Grant Long (161) and Norris Cole (160).

Players like White and Adebayo are good for the league, especially with load management becoming such an issue in the NBA.
