A former Los Angeles Lakers guard might hang up his sneakers soon.

On a new episode of his Barstool Sports show "The Pat Bev Pod With Rone," one-time Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley, now 37, revealed to cohost Adam "Rone" Ferrone that he was weighing a possible retirement.

“If I don’t play basketball soon, I’m going to retire,” Beverley said.

Beverley spent about half of the 2022-23 NBA season playing for Los Angeles. The 6-foot-2 Arkansas product appeared in 45 games for Los Angeles that season, playing out of position as the club's starting point guard on a woefully mismatched roster. He averaged 6.4 points on .402/.348/.780 shooting splits, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks per bout.

Los Angeles team president Rob Pelinka offloaded Beverley and two other past-their-prime point guards, Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Nunn, in separate midseason deals as he reshaped his roster around All-Stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, plus rising guard Austin Reaves.

All told, Pelinka brought in forward Rui Hachimura, sharpshooting swingman Malik Beasley, forward Jarred Vanderbilt and center Mo Bamba. Hachimura has carved out a major role on the Lakers, while Vanderbilt is a useful regular season contributor for L.A. Beasley is one of the league's best sixth man and floor-spacers elsewhere.

Patrick Beverley's Decorated Role Player Resume

After spending his first three seasons pro seasons out of college aboard, Beverley linked up with the Houston Rockets, where he quickly blossomed on a club led by All-Star guard James Harden and All-Star center Dwight Howard.

Beverley finished among the top 17 vote recipients for Defensive Player of the Year honors with Houston three times, making an All-Defensive First Team and an All-Defensive Second Team during his tenure there.

He was flipped to the L.A. Clippers as part of the Rockets' blockbuster Chris Paul trade in the summer of 2017. Beverley was among the top nine Defensive Player of the Year vote recipients twice with the Clippers, and made one more All-Defensive Second Team.

With his athleticism fading, Beverley then became something of a journeyman, spending his final three NBA seasons (to this point) on five franchises. He spent 2024-25 playing for Israeli squad Hapoel Tel Aviv.
