The Los Angeles Lakers were able to win an NBA championship because of how good LeBron James was back in the bubble during the 2020 season. That was the best performance he's had in a Lakers uniform.

Since then, things haven't gone nearly as well. They haven't been able to win another title, although they were able to land Luka Doncic in a trade earlier this year.

With that acquisition, the Lakers are more focused on building around Doncic than they are acquiescing to all of James' needs. That is why some trade rumors have started to float around.

James' future was given an update by ESPN insider Shams Charania during an interview on SiriusXM.

“He feels clearly that the Lakers are more in a futuristic mindset. Where does that go? If one side feels like, listen, I wanna compete for a championship, the other side is just trying to compete for the future, but then that other side is like, well, we are trying to win a championship, like, where does that meet in the roads that we see?"

“And I think that situation will play out over the next two months. I really think there will be some hard conversations eventually that will need to happen there.”

It really depends on what James feels is best for him, but it's still likely that he ends his career in Los Angeles. He likes what he has built in Southern California.

James has a no-trade clause, so the Lakers would only move him if they were forced to by James. He holds all of the cards, but he just signed another deal with LA.

The Lakers believe they can win a title with the current roster they have because of how good James still is. He's still their second-best player and one of the 15 best players in the league.

This past season with the Lakers, James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. He shot 51.3 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
