The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to contend for the NBA championship next season with both Luka Doncic and LeBron James on the roster.

Questions remain if James actually wants to be on the roster moving forward, though. Despite his longtime Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul saying that James wants to stay in Los Angeles, his mind can change on a whim.

James could decide that he wants to be moved at the trade deadline, which would be a massive move. One NBA insider gave his prediction on how things will play out with James.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst gave his prediction, believing that James will stay with the Lakers for at least this season.

"The LeBron thing is a big factor, it's a bit of an X-factor," Windhorst said. "The one thing I'll say about LeBron he has a history of, which is fulfilling his contract. I say he fulfills his contract."

James' contract is only guaranteed for next season before he has a chance to opt out. Windhorst believes that he will fulfill that obligation of playing for the Lakers this season.

After that, Windhorst is less sure. Given the reporting around the situation and the fact that no one truly knows what James wants to do, his uncertainty is warranted.

The Lakers are already shifting their philosophy on team-building away from what fits James the best towards what fits Doncic the best. They are going to have to build around him sooner rather than later.

The Lakers are trying to pursue two timelines. They believe they have a shot to win the title next season with James on the roster, but they also want to set themselves up well for the post-James era.

Signing Doncic to a contract extension gives the Lakers peace of mind that they have their face of the franchise locked up for years to come. Now, they have to build around him.

At this point, it would be surprising if James played more than two years with the Lakers. He will either be with a new team after that, or he will retire.

This past season, James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game.
