The Dallas City Council's vote on this issue was unanimous, which should be a surprise to no one. Dirk Nowitzki, who recently retired in April after playing 21 unforgettable seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, is a Dallas legend, not only for what he did on the basketball court, but also for how he's always finding ways to give back to the community through The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation.
Although Nowitzki wasn't able to be at Dallas City Hall on Wednesday to accept the proposal, his long-time former Maverick teammate and recently hired Texas Legends Assistant General Manager, Jason Terry was there to accept the proposal on his behalf.

"It's a great way to honor a living legend," said Terry in his acceptance speech. "As great of a basketball player that Dirk is and was, he's that much more as a human being. He serves as a great role model to all of our youths here in the city of Dallas."
This is sure to be one of the many immortalizing gestures heading Nowitzki's way (pun intended). We already know that the Mavs will have a silhouette of Nowitzki's iconic one-legged fadeaway on the AAC hardwood for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Adding on to that, we also expect the Mavs to retire No. 41 into the AAC rafters and eventually put up a statue of Nowitzki as well. One would think that the jersey retirement would take place at some point this season, but no official announcements for that have been made at this time.
For now though, Nowitzki Way will be there, in front of the house that Dirk built, for Mavs fans everywhere to enjoy as they pass through.
