The Brooklyn Nets are very shorthanded vs. the Wizards

In the most intriguing injury news of the day, the Brooklyn Nets have ruled Kyrie Irving out for Saturday night’s game vs. the Washington Wizards after previously listing him as available to play. The downgrade should not come as much surprise, as Irving requested a trade yesterday that caught many off guard; however, it is interesting how Brooklyn decided to approach his availability for this game.

After listing Irving as available on the initial injury report, the Nets downgraded him to out with calf soreness. This leaves the Nets without Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons, and Kyrie Irving. The big three will likely be joined by T.J. Warren on the inactive list, as he is doubtful to play for the Nets.

As for the Wizards, they have listed Bradley Beal as questionable with left foot soreness. The only players ruled out for Washington are Anthony Gill and the team’s G-League assignment guys. Should Beal miss this game, there will be even more star power not in action.

In what now feels like a monthly occurrence, the Nets may be entering the start of a new chapter. The team has previously found ways to navigate around difficult situations with both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, and will have to find a way to do that again before the February 9th trade deadline. For now, the players who are healthy and available will have to lock in on this matchup with the Wizards.
