Cam Johnson will not be on the Nets' road trip because he is being evaluated for an ankle injury

Just as they are already processing the demoralizing deactivation of Ben Simmons for the remainder of the season, the Brooklyn Nets seemed to be preparing as well for a looming extended absence of Cam Johnson.

Johnson underwent a recent MRI and it was confirmed that he sustained a right ankle sprain in the Nets' Tuesday game against the Philadelphia 76ers. As such, he wasn't able to join the team's road game this Thursday against the Detroit Pistons as the medical staff are continuing to assess his condition.

Cam out day-to-day

Despite Cam's exclusion on the Nets' first road landing in Detroit, interim coach Kevin Ollie insisted that they consider the 28-year-old’s inactivity on a day-to-day basis.

“He hasn’t came on the trip so far,” Ollie said. “We’re still evaluating him back at our facilities and not ruling that he might come later on. But we’re going to take it day-by-day, like everything else with all of our injuries, and look forward to the best.”

Brooklyn still has five more games to take on the road, and it is yet to be seen if Cam will ultimately join them at some point in the grinding stretch.

Nevertheless, the entire Nets group has its fingers crossed that Johnson will be fully healthy throughout the recovery process while they continue to rely on their shorthanded lineup.

“We want him to be 100 percent though, so we don’t want them to come back and get re-injured for a prolonged period of time,” Ollie added. “So we’re taking advantage of this time with other guys having to step up and we’ll be stronger and more capable to go in this long fourth quarter stretch with all of our guys healthy here soon.”
