At this point in the 2023-2024 NBA season, the Detroit Pistons have to prioritize keeping their star guard, Cade Cunningham, as healthy as possible.

With Cunningham coming off of a significant injury during his sophomore effort, he was fortunate to appear in 62 games so far this season. Lately, though, Cunningham has had his fair share of nights off.

When the Pistons paid a visit to the Atlanta Hawks on April 3, Cunningham entered the matchup as questionable. While Cunningham hasn’t been diagnosed with any new setbacks, the Pistons are managing his knee, which was injured before.

The trend continued two nights later when the Pistons paid a visit to the Memphis Grizzlies. That time around, Cunningham was ruled out initially, rather than heading into the matchup as questionable to play.

The Pistons have a quick turnaround this weekend. On Saturday, they are set to face the Brooklyn Nets for the second night of a back-to-back set. Unfortunately, it appears that Cunningham will not be a part of the two-game stretch at all.

According to Detroit’s injury report, Cunningham is already ruled out for Saturday’s matchup in Brooklyn. With that absence, Cunningham will miss his sixth games in 11 matchups.

The last time Cunningham played was on the Pistons’ April 1 matchup against the Grizzlies. At the time, Cunningham spent nearly 35 minutes on the court. He managed to hit on nearly 60 percent of his field goals, scoring 36 points. He also added four rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and one block to his performance.

During an unforgettable season for all of the wrong reasons, Cunningham has been a bright spot for a young and struggling Pistons squad. This year, he appeared in 62 games. Cunningham averaged 23 points on 45 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from three. He also dished out eight assists per game in those outings.

Saturday’s game will mark the 16th absence for Cunningham this season. The Pistons and the Nets will roll without the star guard at 7 PM ET.
