Former Pistons Lottery Pick Set to Join Big 3 League

With basketball growing in popularity all over the world, players have countless options to continue playing after their NBA days. One former Detroit Pistons lottery pick of the 2010s recently decided to reignite his career in another famous pro league.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Greg Monroe has agreed to a deal to join the Big3 league. This 3-on-3 league is run by hip-hop legend Ice Cube and features an array of former players. “Bad Boys” legend Rick Mahorn is also part of the league, but as a coach.

Monroe started his career with the Pistons in 2010 after being drafted seventh overall. He’d spend five seasons with the franchise before eventually becoming a journeyman center. During his time in Detroit, Monroe averaged 14.3 PPG, 9.2 RPG, and 2.3 APG. His lone accolade was making an All-Rookie team his first year.

It did not take long for Monroe to establish himself as a skilled offensive big in the NBA. By his third season, he was averaging just shy of a double-double (16.0 PPG, 9.6 RPG). Even with the arrival of Andre Drummond, Monroe still managed to be productive at the power forward position.

After departing from Detroit in 2015, Monroe struggled to find a consistent home in the league. Aside from the Milwaukee Bucks, he never spent more than one year with a team. Some of the teams Monroe had stints with include the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Washington Wizards.

Monroe’s final run in the league came during the 2022 season when he played in three games for the Utah Jazz. Now, he’ll be playing for Ice Cube in the Big 3.
