Richard Jefferson Interested in Owning Phoenix Suns

Former NBA veteran Richard Jefferson has some interest in purchasing the Phoenix Suns.

Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver announced Wednesday that he had begun the sale process of both the Suns and Phoenix Mercury.

"As a man of faith, I believe in [the] atonement and the path to forgiveness," Sarver said in a statement Wednesday. "I expected that the commissioner's one-year suspension would provide the time for me to focus, make amends and remove my personal controversy from the teams that I and so many fans love.

"But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible -- that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past. For those reasons, I am beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury."

Adam Silver on Sarver selling the team: "This is the right next step for the organization and community."

On Wednesday's episode of NBA Today, former NBA veteran Richard Jefferson said he is interested in putting in a bid to purchase the Suns.

"This is a joyous occasion. I'm about to put in a bid on the Suns; I'm probably going to fall a few dollars short," joked Jefferson.

"But I'm definitely putting in a bid. I'm doing something, but I'm glad he's gone, and I can't wait for the next person."

Jefferson is a University of Arizona graduate who played 16 years in the NBA and won a championship as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne recently named a couple of people to look out for when it comes to now ownership: Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and Laurene Powell Jobs, and Bob Iger (former CEO of Disney).

She also said the evaluation could be between $3 to $4 billion for the Suns and Sarver has the option to pick who can buy the Suns and Mercury.
