In this story:

When thinking about NBA franchises that have sustained success, we often tie those results to the team's culture. However, Oklahoma City Thunder GM thinks there's a difference between culture and environment. While both are important, there are some key differences between the two.

Following a 40-win season for the Thunder, GM Sam Presti did his annual end of season interview with the media. For over two hours, he answered a wide variety questions with extremely insightful thoughts. One of the more interesting topics he covered was around this concept of culture and environment, which gives great insight into how he has built such a fantastic situation in Oklahoma City.

With that in mind, Presti considers cultures to be dynamic. They're not static, but rather constantly changing. This is why it's more important to build a good environment, as that's something more consistent. Furthermore, when a team is winning and having success, it can often be a result of a former environment that got them to that point, rather than the current environment at the time.

As such, the most important thing that a team can do is create an environment that will allow every individual, from the very top to the bottom, to be their absolute best.
