OKC Thunder in Best Position Yet to Have Three All-Stars in 2027

In this story:
Oklahoma City will have high expectations again next season, and a big All-Star Weekend could follow.
The Thunder have changed plenty throughout the offseason, sending some of their most notable regular season contributors out the door. With some young talent on the roster set to take over some of those minutes left behind by Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins, the Thunder’s production will look a bit different next season.
Of course, that may also mean that the Thunder’s star power will need to shine more often to rack up wins and stay at the top of the Western Conference. With the Thunder’s big three having the ability to put up bigger numbers as the team’s depth has taken a slight hit, this might be Oklahoma City’s best opportunity yet to send three players to the All-Star Game.
While the All-Star format seems to change almost annually at this point, the selection has generally remained the same, with each conference sending 12 players to the All-Star Game. So, for the Thunder to send three players to the All-Star Game, they would have to be worthy of roughly a quarter of the West’s allotment. While that will be a tall task, even as another spot or two opens up for injury replacements, the Thunder have a legitimate opportunity to do so.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s spot is almost untouchable as long as he stays healthy, as the reigning two-time MVP. Meanwhile, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren each made it in their most recent healthy seasons, albeit not often playing together in those pre-All-Star spans.
Considering Oklahoma City’s roster makeup next season, Williams and Holmgren should be able to coexist in a way where either can be the second star on any given night. Williams likely needs some more offensive buzz to get back to the All-Star Game, while Holmgren can build his case largely on being the anchor of the Thunder’s defense, which could easily be the best in the league again next year.
Beyond the individual cases that should be well within reach for Oklahoma City, the Thunder also have been helped by the wild offseason around the league. With almost all of the star movement featuring a move to the East or a star staying in the East, being an All-Star in the West may not be as difficult as in previous years.
So, if the Thunder can showcase their dominance again next season and get the spotlight on Williams and Holmgren early, they should both have solid cases to join Gilgeous-Alexander and give Oklahoma City a trio of All-Stars in 2027.
