BREAKING: Mavericks Officially Protesting Loss to Warriors

The Dallas Mavericks are submitting an official protest to the NBA after losing to the Golden State Warriors

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported after Wednesday night's Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors game that Dallas is expected to submit an official protest to the NBA, as they believe the officiating crew made a mistake by not informing them of a ruling change during a timeout towards the end of the third quarter.

In a strange play that nobody has likely ever seen before, the Dallas Mavericks seemingly forgot to play defense. Allowing a free two points with no defender in sight, the Mavericks initially seemed to have fallen asleep; however, an explanation from team owner Mark Cuban revealed they had not been informed of an official ruling change during the previous timeout.

In a Tweet on Wednesday night, Cuban wrote:

"For those wondering about the play with 1:54 to go on the 3rd, let me explain what happened. The ref called Mavs ball. The announcer announced it. Then there was a timeout. During the time out the official changed the call and never told us. Then when they saw us line up as if it were our ball, he just gave the ball to the Warriors. Never said a word to us. They got an easy basketball. Crazy that it would matter in a 2 point game. Worst officiating non call mistake possibly in the history of the NBA. All they had to do was tell us and they didn't."

Cuban was understandably upset, and it will be interesting to see how the league responds to this.
