Report: Warriors Interested in Trade for 76ers' Matisse Thybulle

Could the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers make this trade?

Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle was once considered off limits in many trade discussions, but that is reportedly no longer the case. In a recent report from The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey, Thybulle is no longer untouchable, and is drawing interest from the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.

"Multiple NBA sources said the Golden State Warriors have had internal discussions about Thybulle and that they do like him as a defensive stopper," Pompey wrote. "The Sacramento Kings are also reportedly monitoring his availability... The Kings' and Warriors' interest makes sense and is something to pay attention to."

Having struggled at times defensively this season, the Warriors could benefit from Thybulle's skillset on that end; however, his lack of spacing would be a concern. A career 32.5% shooting from deep, Thybulle is often ignored by opposing defenses, which makes him a less than ideal fit in Golden State's system. Always dealing with multiple defenders being thrown at Steph Curry, much of what makes the Warriors so effective is their ability to create an advantage with other shooters when teams opt for this style of defense on Curry. A player like Thybulle does not fit that game plan; however, there still could be a role for him in Golden State.

With Thybulle having fallen to just 12.1 minutes per game this season, it is possible that he is obtainable for a package that would make sense for the Warriors. If the price were right, Golden State could bring Thybulle in for a limited defensive role off the bench. While the fit doesn't project to be seamless, there is always value in a defensive stopper like Thybulle.
