With Chris Paul being dealt from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards, the expectation is for Washington to explore the possibility of flipping Paul to a contender. In a recent report, Shams Charania of The Athletic named both the LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors as teams to watch for in a possible deal for Paul, adding that both teams discussed deals with Phoenix before Paul was moved to Washington.

While the Clippers have been heavily linked to Paul, this report about the Warriors is somewhat surprising. Led by arguably the greatest point guard of all-time in Steph Curry, Golden State is not in need of a starting point guard; however, Paul could be featured in a limited role off their bench.

Having started every game in his NBA career, it's unclear how open Paul would be to a bench role, but that's all he would have available to him in Golden State. Assuming the Warriors aren't looking to start Paul alongside Curry, Thompson, and Green (if he re-signs), the veteran point guard would have to fill a primary ball-handler role off the bench.

Paul's fit off the bench in Golden State is also less than optimal, because that backup point guard role has been occupied by Jordan Poole over the last two seasons. Taking Poole off the ball would likely limit his already inconsistent production, and a bench backcourt of Poole and Paul would be difficult to survive defensively.

For a lot of reasons, Paul's fit in Golden State makes little sense.
