NBA Insider Reveals Warriors Had 'Serious' Jonathan Kuminga Trade Talks

In this story:
Leading up to Thursday night's NBA Draft, there was a lot of noise about the Golden State Warriors potentially packaging Jonathan Kuminga in a trade that would move them up in the draft. While that ultimately did not occur, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that Golden State did hold serious trade conversations with the Indiana Pacers about Kuminga.
"Moving Poole also highlights a noted shift in Golden State’s team-building approach, which began with dealing former No. 2 pick James Wiseman at February’s trade deadline," Fischer wrote. "The Warriors’ fabled two-timeline strategy is in the rearview mirror. Golden State also held serious conversations with Indiana about trading Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft, for a package centered around the No. 7 pick on Thursday, sources said. Perhaps the Warriors could still move the 20-year-old forward this offseason."
Perhaps even more interesting than Fischer's note about Kuminga, is his assertion that Golden State has indeed fully pivoted away from their two-timeline plan. Very reluctant to abandon their youth movement that was attempting to coexist with a win-now core, the Warriors may now finally be admitting defeat on that plan.
While they did not trade Kuminga on draft night, it would make sense for the Warriors to still explore deals for him if they aren't certain he will be a regularly contributing piece next season.
