Report: 2 Free Agents 'Drawing Legitimate Interest' for Warriors' Final Roster Spots

The Golden State Warriors have been linked to Brandon Williams and Georges Niang over the past few weeks, and the Dubs' interest has reportedly not wavered.

The Stein Line's Marc Stein reported Tuesday that the two free agents are "drawing legitimate interest" from Golden State.

The Warriors have two standard contract roster spots remaining. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said Tuesday that he plans to fill both spots instead of leaving one open like he did for most of last season.

The Dubs' two biggest needs are point guard and wing depth. Williams would fill the former, and Niang would fill the latter.

Williams Would Give the Dubs Things They Lack

Williams remains a free agent due in large part to his substandard three-point shooting (career 28.0 percent). There's no doubt that it's something he needs to work on to see the floor more, but he's already a decent player without the three-ball.

Williams has made 55.8 percent of his two-pointers over the last two seasons. He has quality ball-handling skills and quickness, allowing him to get into the paint at will.

The Warriors are lacking in ball-handling, dynamic driving ability and paint scoring, and Williams would help provide more of all three.

It's also nice that Williams is just 26 years old. The Warriors are relying on an awful lot of older players who could have availability issues. Williams has a good chance to be healthy for most, if not all, of the 2026-27 season.

Niang Isn't a Perfect Fit, But He's a Solid Player

The Warriors would love to get a wing who is pretty good at defending and shooting the three for the veteran minimum, but that player probably isn't available.

The issue with Niang's fit with the Dubs is he's best-suited guarding opposing 4s, but so is Draymond Green, Yaxel Lendeborg and Gui Santos. Finding lineups for Niang won't be easy when all three are healthy.

When he sees the floor, it's likely Niang will have major issues when defending 3s or 4s with driving chops.

But at least offensively, Niang would fit in pretty well due to his career three-point percentage of 39.9 percent.

As an added bonus, Niang is pretty durable. He missed just 13 games from the 2020-21 season to the 2024-25 season.

Niang missed the entire 2025-26 season with a severe foot injury. Assuming he's recovered from that, he'll find a reserve role on an NBA roster.
