The New England Patriots scored the first points in Super Bowl XLIX on an 11-yard pass from Tom Brady to Brandon LaFell in the second quarter.

The first quarter went scoreless as the Patriots received the ball first but punted after six plays. The Seahawks responded with a three-and-out, and the Patriots appeared to be on the verge of scoring on their next possession.

But on a third-and-10 from the Seahawks' 10-yard line,  Brady threw an interception straight into the hands of Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane, who returned it 14 yards before being tackled. Lane injured his arm on the play and was ruled doubtful to return with an arm injury.

The Patriots finally got on the board with a nine-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in the touchdown pass to LaFell. The pass moved Brady to 14-of-18 passing for 111 yards.
