Titans Release Three-Time Pro Bowl OL Taylor Lewan
The Titans and veteran offensive lineman Taylor Lewan are parting ways after nine seasons. On Wednesday, the 31-year-old announced, via the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, that Tennessee had informed him of his release.
Lewan was set to enter the final year of his contract with the Titans and was due to make $14.84 million. Tennessee will not incur a dead cap hit after releasing the former first-round pick, as he had no guaranteed money left on the record-setting five-year, $80 million deal he signed in 2018.
Injuries plagued the last few seasons of Lewan’s tenure with the Titans. He appeared in just 20 games since the start of the 2020 NFL season, including just two appearances during the 2022 campaign.
This past season, Lewan suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 2 against the Bills, going down with the injury on Tennessee’s first offensive snap of the game.
The three-time Pro Bowler took to Twitter to thank the Titans and the fans for their support throughout his tenure with the organization. The former Michigan standout was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft and played in 105 games across nine years with the Titans.
“I hope I did enough to create something all the titan fans can be proud of, I love you all,” Lewan wrote via Twitter after his release.
Lewan is set to hit unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career following his departure from Tennessee, should the 31-year-old opt against retirement.
In addition to the release of Lewan, the Titans also parted ways with wide receiver Robert Woods and kicker Randy Bullock on Wednesday, according to Field Yates of ESPN.
