Patriots Targeting Star WRs in Trade, Free Agency Markets, per Report

The Patriots have reportedly shown interest in several free-agent wide receivers that include Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins and Broncos’ Jerry Jeudy, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.

Reports of New England’s interest in the receivers comes after Jakobi Meyers signed a three-year, $33 million deal with $21 million guaranteed with the Raiders on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. As Meyers heads to the West coast to reunite with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, he played an integral role in the Patriots’ offense.

While New England’s offense was a dysfunctional unit throughout the 2022 season, Meyers served as New England’s leading receiver, recording 804 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 67 receptions. Meyers also led the team in targets with 97. With Meyers gone, New England will look to replace his production in free agency with options like Hopkins and Jeudy. The Patriots also reportedly attended Odell Beckham’s workout last week in Arizona.

However, the biggest determining factor on if the Patriots are able to secure the deal will be compensation, according to Howe.
