Colts Player Investigated for Betting, Including Wagers on Own Team, per Report
The NFL is investigating a Colts player after it found evidence that the player placed “hundreds” of bets, Mark Rybaltowski of the Sports Handle reports.
According to the report, the player placed some of the bets on Indianapolis and most of them occurred during the 2022 season.
Destin Adams of Horseshoe Huddle first reported the player in question is cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. Rodgers played in 45 games since Indianapolis drafted him in 2020, including nine games started last year. According to ESPN’s Stephen Holder, Rodgers placed around 100 bets primarily between $25–50, with at least one bet in the low four figures. A Colts official confirmed the investigation to ESPN.
"We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time," an official said.
Additionally, Indiana Gaming Commission deputy director Jenny Reske told Rybaltowski that they are looking into the matter.
“I can confirm that we have received information pertaining to this matter and we are following developments,” Reske told Rybaltowski. “The IGC is not the lead agency because it involves violations of league policy. We will, however, continue to review information as it emerges to see if it requires any regulatory action.”
The NFL recently suspended five players for violating the league’s gambling policy, three of whom were suspended indefinitely while two players were given six-game suspensions. Of those five players, four were Lions and the team released three of them in the weeks after the report, as only Jameson Williams remains on the team to serve his six-game suspension.
Commanders defensive lineman Shaka Toney, who was also suspended indefinitely, remains on the Washington roster. Last year, wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for the season while with the Falcons for betting on games. He was traded to the Jaguars midseason and was reinstated in the offseason.
