Colts’ Jonathan Taylor Away From Team for Rehab Amid Trade Request, per Report

Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is hoping for a new deal with Indianapolis, but with owner Jim Irsay vocal that an extension isn’t coming anytime soon, the young back is looking to be moved to a new club.

Irsay has maintained that Indianapolis has no plans to trade Taylor, who is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract, either. With all this continuing to be in the air, Taylor has left training camp in what the franchise is describing as an “excused absence” to continue to rehab his ankle off-site, according to ESPN’s Stephen Holder.

Colts coach Shane Steichen sidestepped questions regarding Taylor’s availability Tuesday, simply saying his absence was “part of his rehab process.” Steichen declined to comment when pressed on whether or not Taylor was rehabbing on-site.

This comment by Steichen was made even though injured players are normally expected to be on the field for each workout with the franchise.

With one year remaining on his rookie contract, and no resolution on an extension in sight, Taylor is “holding out hope” that the Colts reconsider his trade request, according to Holder.

Taylor has rushed for 3,841 yards and 33 touchdowns in 43 games over his first three seasons in the NFL.
