Browns-Patriots Strike Pre-Cut Trade Sending RB to Cleveland

The Browns have acquired second-year running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the Patriots in exchange for offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr., it was announced on Sunday.

The pre-cut down deal gives Cleveland much needed depth behind standout starter Nick Chubb. Strong Jr., who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, never made an impact during his brief time in New England. Over 15 games in his rookie campaign, the former South Dakota State standout rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on just 10 carries, while hauling in seven receptions for 42 yards in the passing game.

With Jerome Ford missing most of training camp due to a hamstring injury, Strong Jr. could contribute immediately with Demetric Felton Jr. spelling Chubb in early season action.

The Patriots, who had issues last season along their offensive tackle, add depth to the front line in Wheatley Jr. The son of former NFL running back Tyrone Wheatley, who went undrafted in 2020, has yet to appear in an NFL regular season game,

Strong’s departure in New England likely signifies a major role for newly signed veteran Ezekiel Elliott behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson
