Jonathan Taylor’s Standing With Colts Remains Unchanged As Return Nears, per Report
As Jonathan Taylor nears his return from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, there’s no indication that his mind has changed about playing for the Colts, and he would still like to be traded, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.
“From what I understand, [Taylor] still doesn’t want to play for the Colts, and they still don’t want to give him a long-term contract,” Graziano wrote. “The time since the preseason has mellowed out the market a bit and maybe created more fertile ground for a deal.”
Taylor requested a trade away from the Colts in the offseason, as he was one of several running backs across the league who failed to sign a long-term contract extension with his franchise. After contract extension talks went stale, Taylor asked to be moved—a request that has still not been fulfilled.
Taylor has been on the PUP list since the preseason as he continues to rehabilitate his ankle from a surgery he underwent last January, but will first be eligible to return following Indy’s Week 4 game against the Rams this Sunday. Now nearing full health, there’s no indication he’ll be traded anytime soon, leaving his status with the team in limbo.
Taylor has spent his entire career in Indianapolis after being drafted by the Colts in 2020 out of Wisconsin. In 43 games, Taylor has rushed for 3,841 yards and 33 touchdowns. He has also caught 104 passes for 802 yards and three scores out of the backfield.
