Jets Declined to Make Carson Wentz an Offer Before Signing With Rams, per Report

Before signing with the Rams Tuesday, Carson Wentz and his team apparently had their eyes set on another destination. With Zach Wilson struggling and Aaron Rodgers still months away from a possible return, Wentz’s camp reached out to the Jets to see if they were interested in signing the veteran, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport

They were not. New York declined to make Wentz an offer, sticking by Wilson and paving the way for Wentz to sign with Los Angeles.

The Jets made sense for Wentz, not only because he could immediately get meaningful snaps, but he has some history with general manager Joe Douglas. The former Eagles vice president of player personnel was part of the leadership group that drafted Wentz back in 2016 with the No. 2 pick.

Instead, he’ll join the Rams where quarterback Matthew Stafford is currently dealing with a thumb injury that forced him to miss his team’s 20-3 loss to the Packers this past week. With his team on a bye, it remains to be seen if he’ll return for the Week 11 matchup against the Seahawks or if Wentz will start.
