Patrick Mahomes Shared Encouraging Message to Kadarius Toney After Offside Penalty

With the dust settling on the Chiefs’ loss to the Bills in Week 14, the team is turning its sights toward its upcoming matchup against the Patriots on Sunday.

Kadarius Toney’s controversial offside penalty, which wiped away a 49-yard touchdown, was a heavily discussed topic in the aftermath of the game, as was the reaction to the penalty from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But it seems the team is trying to move on from the loss, rather than fixate on the past.

On Wednesday, Mahomes shared with reporters the details of his message of encouragement for Toney ahead of Sunday’s tilt.

“Just be you,” said Mahomes, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “That’s all you can do in life or in this league. You’re going to make mistakes. Stuff’s going to happen in your life. How do you accept that adversity and get past it and do it the right way?

“You make one mistake, that’s not going to define you. It’s going to be how you respond to that mistake.”

It’s been a disappointing year in Kansas City for Toney, and the team’s other wide receivers have largely struggled as well, pacing the NFL with 29 dropped passes this season.

Mahomes said that he’s confident the team will rebound and spoke highly of the Chiefs’ receiving corps, saying “all the receivers know I believe in them.”
