Richard Sherman Rips NFL After Tough Roughing the Passer Call in Cowboys-Dolphins Showdown

Richard Sherman has never been known to hold his opinion, a reputation he kept alive in Week 16 following a questionable penalty during Sunday’s anticipated Cowboys-Dolphins matchup.

The former cornerback took to X (formerly Twitter) to send an irate message to the NFL over a critical roughing the passer call on Miami. The play occurred on third-and-11 from the Dallas five-yard line, when Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott took an apparent late hit from Dolphins pass rusher Christian Wilkins.

Judging by his strong reaction, Sherman, apparently, feels the league has a problem with calling similar penalties evenly, a sentiment that’s been expressed by fans and pundits alike over the past couple seasons.

“This League is insane,” wrote Sherman. “How many times they say the responsibility is on the Defensive player to not land on the QB or to not hit the WR with too much force. When is anything on the offense to protect themselves. Never heard this phrase so much.”

While some may debate Sherman’s outlook on the play, the ex-All Pro is likely not alone in his disagreement with the officiating crew’s decision.

Unfortunately for Sherman and Miami, however, the potentially pivotal call will forever stand, even if Wilkins’s hit didn’t appear as it seemed.
