Carson Wentz to Start for Rams in Week 18 vs. 49ers as Matthew Stafford Rests for Playoffs

The Los Angeles Rams will be giving Matthew Stafford a week of rest ahead of the playoffs. Backup quarterback Carson Wentz is expected to start the regular season finale against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Stafford has started 15 of the Rams’ 16 games and thrown 24 touchdown passes this season, but he’ll be on the sideline in Week 18 as the team gears up for the postseason.

The Rams clinched a playoff berth last week and will end the year as either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the NFC, depending upon the results of the Week 18 slate.

With Stafford getting the game off, Wentz is set to make his first start of the season after signing with the Rams in November. His last start came back on Jan. 1, 2023 as a member of the Washington Commanders.

Wentz has featured in one game for Los Angeles this season, though he didn’t attempt a single pass during his lone appearance. He’s made 92 starts in his eight-year career, throwing 151 touchdown passes and 66 interceptions.
