Brock Purdy Will No Longer Be Limited in 49ers Practice

The likelihood of Brock Purdy playing in the preseason for the 49ers has officially increased.

The slow integration period for Brock Purdy is officially over.

Kyle Shanahan revealed on a conference call with reporters that Purdy will no longer need to be limited to two practices in a row.

"That's off. He'll get to go the three practices in a row this week," said Shanahan.

This is another sign that Purdy continues to trend in the right direction. It has already been the best-case scenario for Purdy coming back from his ruptured UCL. Everything was looking bleak and skeptical just five-to-six months ago, especially when he needed to postpone his surgery.

Clearly everything worked out smoothly as Purdy was able to be available for the beginning of training camp. He's passed yet another test as he hasn't had any hiccups in his return to the field. The next test for him will be to play in an actual game.

However, Shanahan may not care to see that with Purdy. He was held out of the opener against the Raiders this past Sunday, and I wouldn't put it past Shanahan to do it again this week against the Broncos. Not only can he preserve Purdy, but he can also give more reps to Trey Lance who desperately needs it, along with Sam Darnold.

I, for one, have been advocating for Purdy to play a bit this preseason. Holding him out in the first game against the Raiders is fine, but in its entirety is not. Let him get a couple of series against the Broncos, then a whole quarter in the preseason finale (dress rehearsal game) against the Chargers. The 49ers can't hide him and be timid forever. It's not like he will be worse for it if he does play. I

If they're scared of him getting hurt, then that is a greater issue at hand if they can't feel like they can protect him in a limited capacity. I'd guess that now that Purdy will no longer be limited to only two practices in a row, that the confidence will be stronger in the 49ers to let him loose in the preseason.
